I was drawn to the teaching profession after experiencing the impact of a lively, passionate professor who took the time to mentor me; since then teaching has been a passion of mine. I began my teaching career at a small, private high school, and was able to emulate the practice of interacting both intellectually and personally with students within the confines of a small class. After three years of teaching secondary school, I began my doctorate at the University of North Texas. While there, my teaching ability was recognized as I was the first of my cohort to be given teaching assignments, and where I won the University of North Texas 2013 Outstanding Teaching Fellow Award. My students have frequently commented on my passion and knowledge of the subject.
The primary goal of an educator is to be a tutor,I do this through the implementation of Socratic learning; encouraging students to ask questions and examine foundational presuppositions about the nature of man, justice, community, the interaction between reason and religion, as well as political involvement in America and around the world. Further, I seek to make the students active learners through use of structured debate, simulations, and team projects and encourage them to take general concepts and apply them to specific current events. A more complete statement can be found in my teaching philosophy.
